British A12 Matilda II
British A12 Matilda II
British A12 Matilda II Infantry Tank
The British Matilda II seen action in the battle for France, Western Desert Theater, & the Far East against the imperial forced of Japan.
The Matilda IIs caused problems for the Germans in the general retreat during the batlle for France. The German 37mm and 50mm anti-tank guns were simply too small in calibre to penetrate the thick armor of the Matilda.
Its success was short lived in the western deserts of Africa, where the A12 Matilda II was to meet its match against the infamous 88s of the Afrika Korps. As they became increasingly obsolete due to the improved armor of later German vehicles, Matildas were sent to the Fast East where the opposing Japanese tanks were much lighter.
It was the only British tank to remain in active service for the entire war.
