Bolt Action: Japanese Army Weapons Teams

The Japanese Army Weapons Teams provide great tactical flexibility with sniper, anti-tank, and flamethrower teams being among the most prevalent. They were a key component of any Imperial Japanese Army.  

Japanese infantry lacked anti-tank guns capable of taking on heavier tanks This led to the development of desperate anti-tank weapons. The most famous of these was the lunge mine, a shaped charge mounted on a bamboo stick.  Its use often called upon a soldier to take an extreme risk or even to sacrifice his own life. Other extreme cases involved Japanese soldiers waited in disguised pits holding an artillery shell they would ram into the bottom of a tank or strapping themselves with several magnetic mines and satchel charges as they threw themselves upon enemy vehicles.

Combat engineer units were an integral part of every IJA division. They carried explosives for demolition work and attacking enemy fortifications.  They served a vital roll at mine clearance and some were equipped with the Type 100 flamethrower.

The jungles of South Asia provided plenty of opportunity for snipers to make their mark. Japanese snipers were issued Type 97 sniper rifles with telescopic sights. The rifle was especially suited to use by concealed snipers as its small-caliber bullet and long barrel resulted in very little muzzle flash or smoke, enabling the shooter to remain unseen by the enemy.
